If you have always wanted to take the time to learn more about a great glass of wine, then there is no better time to start learning than right now. Wine is like life, meant to be savored and enjoyed, and with so many good wines available at such affordable prices, it is a great time to become a little better acquainted with the grape.

If you are lucky enough to have a wine cellar at home, then you already know a thing or two about wine. If you do not have a wine cellar in your house, you can always install a wall wine rack. This way you can begin your collection of Pinot Noir, Merlot, Savignon blank or Chablis. Everyone has a favorite blend and favorite brand, and since there is no right or wrong way to enjoy your wine, when you find a particular wine that you find delicious, having wine storage in your home will allow you to stock up on your favorites.

Some Wines Should be Consumed Soon and Some Do better Waiting

Some wine can be kept for a long time, as long as thirty years, while others should be enjoyed almost immediately. Generally if you spent less than eight dollars for a bottle of wine, you will want to drink it sooner rather than later. A fine wine will benefit from the passage of time, and if you are planning to let a wine age, you must make sure to store it in its ideal environment.

Keep Only Wines That Have The Potential to Improve Over time

Each wine reacts to aging a little differently, and the best place to find out how long is the ideal aging for your favorite wine is the winery. They can tell you when the best time to enjoy wine, and they can also bring you up to speed on the perfect storage conditions. In general the following guidelines may help.

Chenin blanc 2-30 years
Sauvignon blanc 2-4 years
Chardonnay 2-6 years
Shiraz 2-15 years
Zinfandel 2-7 years
Cabernet Sauvignon 2-20 years
Merlot 2-10 years
Pinot Noir 2-10 years

Temperature
Wine is happiest when stored between 9 and 15 degrees Celsius. Make sure that your wine racks are in a place that does not experience wild swings in temperature.

Humidity
You want your air to have about 70 percent humidity content so that the cork does not dry out and allow air into the bottle. If that happens, you have yourself a great bottle of vinegar. Humidity can also play havoc with the labels, and there is nothing worse than pulling out a bottle of wine with an unreadable label.

Light
If you want to destroy a bottle of wine, simply let it get warmer than 25 degrees Celsius. It will not even be fit for cooking let alone drinking. So keep your wine away from direct sunlight at all costs.

Vibration
Wine will also suffer from vibration, so an iron wine rack mounted to a basement wall is ideal.

Equipment
As you are designing your wine wall racks made out of iron, make sure that the compartments are large enough to hold a Champagne bottle, and make sure that there are no strong odors in the area.
