The domain of barbecue sauce is still one of men. A man could only have thought up putting such ingredients such as peppers and whiskey into their sauce. The primal urges of hanging out with friends and eating is one that is deeply etched in the mind of all men.

In the world today many things that used to be the man’s domain has become integrated with a woman’s touch or influence. Few things still remain dominated by men, but one of those places is the world of barbecue sauce. Yes, you will see an occasional woman in a grilling competition, but that world of charcoal and cooking meats over fire is still as manly as ever, and keeps us connected with our Neanderthal ancestors.
Much of this primal action relates back to the simple perspective of hunting a wild beast, cutting it up, and putting it on the fire. How many women do you know like to butcher an animal and then stand over a hot fire with smoke in their face while they throw down slabs of raw carcasses onto the flames? Men, on the other hand find this not only relaxing but also enjoyable! Adding the barbecue sauce to the meat only makes that experience that much more satisfying when the freshly butchered meat is ready to eat.
Think of the elements and ingredients in many barbecue sauce types and you will also see that it is a man’s creative mind at work. What women would think to add Jack Daniel’s Bourbon to a condiment, or peppers so hot that they make you cry? This is man’s doing for sure. Maybe for taste, but maybe trying to find a way to get drunk while eating or to cause some pain and suffering to his buddies who are a little more faint of heart. Either way, or for whatever motive, this is how men think, and why they love their grilling sauces so much.
Ultimately the grilling experience is tailor made for men anyway. Hunting animals, butchering nice slabs of meat from them, using open flames to cook, slathering a rich barbecue sauce on the meat and smelling it while it cooks, and eating with no utensils are all some of the greatest male endeavors. No sipping White Zinfandel, using your dinner fork instead of your salad fork, and worrying about getting stuff on your shirt while you eat. Yes, one of the greatest things for men to do is gather together over open flames, cook their meats, and tell long winded, mostly fabricated stories of their own prowess. This has gone on since the beginning of time, and it is instinct more than it is learned.
