Strawberry and Spinach Salad

Salads are great, they are refreshing and healthy. No meal is complete without a salad.

After you have set the dinner table with the small salad fork to the left of the normal entree fork, it is time to start preparing the salad. Etiquette is very important for a proper gourmet meal, but etiquette alone will not fill the stomachs of your expectant quests.

This salad is very simple to prepare and it goes great as a sweet appetizer or just a side to a savory chicken cordon blue, it is strawberry spinach salad. If you are not a big fan of spinach, it is only because you have never tried it with strawberries before.

Seriously, once you taste this salad you will be surprised that it is not the most common salad in existence. Ingredients and proportions can vary quite a bit because it is a salad where the regulations and directions can be taken as more of suggestions really.

Fill a bowl with spinach, preferably as dry as you can get. The better your ingredients are the better the overall dish will be, so getting nice crisp dry spinach is going to be the most delicious way to prepare this meal.

Get walnuts and crack over a trash can, save the edible nut in a bowl and dispose of the shell. Once you have a good amount of walnuts in the aforementioned bowl, dump them into the spinach bowl and mix until ingredients are evenly distributed.

Cut strawberries into thin slices, so that they almost resemble a spinach leaf. Of course they won’t be that thin but if you can get them about an eighth inch wide you will be doing really great.

It may take an entire case of strawberries to get the right spinach to strawberry ratio, not to mention the strawberries are the best part, so don’t be shy adding as many strawberries as you want. This is a great meal for providing a healthy fruit and veggie serving for the day, perhaps even two servings if there is enough for seconds.

Lastly garnish mix in some feta cheese and mix all the ingredients until they are evenly distributed throughout the bowl. Place on the salad plate of each guest and enjoy while the entree is being prepared.

To really compliment this salad you can get a nice lemon water or pinot grigio if you are a wine drinker. If you are going to be eating a steak with this salad then you may want to pair it with a good cabernet sauvignon.

Now the number one most important thing to keep in mind is how much you enjoy the meal. But compliments from the guests will probably remind you of that throughout the night anyway.
