Being Prepared As a Family

Families that stick together also probably were prepared during times of crises. Probably not the adage that everyone is used to, but it still works.

Remember hurricane Katrina, well according to a report done by American Society of Civil Engineering, some of the flood gates that made up the levees protecting New Orleans were not even closed and 53 of them broke due to multiple failures. So in summation basically all of New Orleans was unprepared.

Not to say they deserved anything that happened to them, but you got to wonder, if they had been less hung-over from all that Mardi Gras they may have been a little more capable of dealing with a stage five hurricane blasting through their city. Then again maybe hurricanes are going to destroy city flood gates no matter what, and instead of saying it is the city’s fault for not being prepared you may have to say it was the individuals’ fault.

Yes each and every tarot reader, psychic, or voodooist that spent the months before telling tourists that they need to watch out because a storm was coming should have looked in the mirror for a second to give themselves a reading. All though, a word of advice, performing voodoo in a mirror can cause some pretty harmful reflexive magic with severe consequences, so probably, don’t do that.

Come to think of it perhaps that is what enticed the behemoth hurricane in the first place. Seriously, In all reality no one will ever know if New Orleans was smote down because of their wicked depravity, if it was some mega voodoo curse gone wrong, or if it was just Mother Nature and daughter Katrina kick’en around having a little fun, all you can know for sure is that they should have and could have been more prepared.

Most people survived, and national force responded quickly, but there were still some that were lost. In any catastrophe there is going to be loss, otherwise it wouldn’t be a “real” catastrophe right?

But you do not want it to be you belly up, being flushed by Mother Nature, so you have got to prepare yourself in every single way you can. Many parents like to run through preparedness plans with their children, but this can be frightening for young kids so instead make it into a game.

Something like tag, but instead call it “Zombie Apocalypse Survival Training” or something else if you want. You can have your children move to the designated safe spot of the house while you saunter around trying to catch him like a zombie.

As your child becomes more agile, you can make him perform tasks like grabbing the phone or hitting the power breaker then moving to the safe spot. Remember all the while make sure there are zombies trying to catch the kid, the more zombies the better the training.
